What is Uptime Kuma?

Uptime Kuma is an elegant, self-hosted monitoring tool that tracks the availability of websites, APIs, and services. It supports HTTP(S), TCP, Ping, DNS, Docker container, and database monitoring with over 90 notification services including Telegram, Discord, Slack, and email. The beautiful interface displays uptime statistics, response times, and historical data. It's the perfect lightweight solution for personal projects and small businesses who need reliable availability monitoring.

Why Server Specs Matter

Uptime Kuma is remarkably efficient, written in Node.js with Vue.js frontend. The application continuously sends monitoring requests at configured intervals and stores historical data in SQLite or MariaDB. Memory usage scales with the number of monitors and historical data retention. CPU usage is minimal - mostly just making HTTP requests and processing responses. Network connectivity is more important than raw computing power.

Problems with Undersized Servers

Even with minimal requirements, very limited resources cause issues. Monitors may execute late, missing brief outages. The web dashboard becomes slow with many monitors. Historical data queries take longer. Push notifications may be delayed. However, Uptime Kuma is designed to run on minimal hardware - it functions on Raspberry Pi Zero with constraints.

Our Recommendation

Uptime Kuma runs excellently on 512MB RAM and 1 CPU core for dozens of monitors. Larger deployments with hundreds of monitors should use 1-2GB RAM. Storage depends on retention settings - 1-5GB covers most use cases. SQLite works well for smaller deployments; switch to MariaDB for better performance with many monitors. The application is ideal for running alongside other services due to its minimal footprint.
